One prompt to get started
After you unlock lifetime access, open your dashboard and select Copy setup prompt under Set up your AI agent. Paste it into your coding agent. That's the whole setup.
The prompt is short: it points your agent to the public
setup-shiprust skill
and includes an API key. The skill tells the agent how to install the ShipRust
plugin for itself (for example the native Codex or Claude Code plugin), store
the key securely as SHIPRUST_API_KEY, connect the MCP server (or the REST API
as a fallback) and verify your account. Setup does not create or delete
projects, make a purchase, or deploy anything.
The API key in the prompt
Copying the prompt creates a key named Default for you, so there is nothing to set up in Settings first. Copying again replaces that key: agents using the previous Default key stop working until you give them the new prompt. Keys you create yourself in Settings are never touched.
The key has your account's access. Paste the prompt only into a trusted, private agent conversation; never share it publicly or commit it. If clipboard access is blocked, the prompt is selected on the page so you can copy it manually. Revoke any key in Settings.
Supported agents
The repository provides native plugin packaging for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, plus portable skills and native MCP configurations for OpenClaw, Hermes, OpenCode and VS Code/Copilot. Installation and environment variable syntax differ by agent; follow the matching instructions, not a generic JSON snippet. A public repository is not a listing in every vendor's marketplace.
ChatGPT is different: ordinary chat cannot install local skills, and its direct hosted MCP connector needs OAuth for authenticated access. ShipRust uses API keys. The repository includes an OpenAPI schema and instructions for a private GPT Action using bearer API-key authentication, where Actions are available. That requires a manual account/UI setup step. Codex or another coding agent is the full local development/download path.
MCP and API fallback
The hosted MCP server is at https://shiprust.com/mcp. If your agent
cannot connect, it can use the REST API and the repository's small
Python helper with the same key. A successful configuration save is not proof
of access: the agent should verify the account and list options/projects.
Creating and downloading projects require lifetime access or an active admin role. Configuring an agent does not change your entitlement.
Start building
Once connected, ask for a project by name and features, for example:
Create a ShipRust project called Acme App with CapRover hosting and Stripe. Download it into a new folder and follow its README and AGENTS.md to run it locally.
The generated app has its own API, MCP server and keys. Do not use your ShipRust account key in that app. Mail, Stripe and analytics credentials belong to your own services and are configured separately. Continue with Download your codebase.
